What is an AI agent in Todowa?
An AI agent is an AI teammate with a defined role. In Todowa it works like a person: you can make it responsible, address it in comments with @name and filter automatic projects by its tasks.
You decide what makes it tick – subline, character, traits and skills. Together they form the role it works in. So a copywriter writes differently from a tech lead.
Hand over a task, keep working, read the result
Below a task’s comments, write what you need and click “Hand over to Paula”. Paula is now responsible and works in the background – you don’t have to wait.
When she’s done, her status appears as a comment on the task: the draft, the plan or a question. If useful, she adds to the description and creates next steps as subtasks. Then you are responsible again, and the task is in your inbox.

AI agents in lanes: tasks move from agent to agent
In a project, open “AI team” and give a lane an AI teammate – say Ben for “Planning”, Theo for “Build” and Quinn for “Test”. For each lane you decide what the agent should do there and which lanes it may pass the task on to.
When a task enters such a lane, the agent takes over, works in the background and passes it on. If the next lane has an agent too, work continues there. In the end the task comes back to you, into your inbox – with every report in the comments.

Templates: ready-made AI teams across several boards
Under “New project” → “From template” you get boards with lanes and AI teammates already wired up: Software development (product, development and content), Content & SEO, Client project with Clara for quotes and invoices, Family & home with Oskar and Trip & event with Mira.
New is the flow across boards: Ben slices a feature into subtasks that land in “Development › Planning” or “Content › Research”, where the next agents take over. The parent task collects the status in one comment and moves to “Acceptance” once all subtasks are done. Templates come with Pro.

Tools: AI agents in GitLab and MCP servers – with approval
Under Settings → AI → “Tools for AI coworkers” you connect MCP servers (Streamable HTTP) or a GitLab project. Todowa loads the connection’s tools and shows which ones only read and which ones write.
You set permissions per AI teammate and connection, and for single tools if you like: no access, read only, write with approval, or write. With “Write with approval” the agent proposes the planned action as a comment with its details; it only runs once you click “Execute” – or not at all if you choose “Reject”. The “Activity” view shows which tools an agent used.
Create AI agents in three steps
Under Settings → AI → AI teammates you create as many AI agents as your plan allows.
- Choose a name and subline, for example “Sina – SEO & content”
- Describe character, traits and skills in your own words
- Upload a picture – or adopt one of the 10 ready-made characters with one click and adjust it
Larger AI teams and AI credit
The free plan and Pro each include one AI teammate. Under Settings → Subscription you add the “AI team 5” or “AI team 10” package to Pro: up to 5 or 10 AI teammates and more monthly AI allowance, cancellable monthly.
If the monthly allowance runs out, you buy AI credit. It is only used once the month’s allowance is spent, and it doesn’t expire. With your own AI endpoint only the number of AI teammates counts, not the usage.
If you hit one of these limits – one AI teammate more than your plan allows, or the allowance is used up – Todowa opens a window where you book Pro, the matching package or AI credit right there.

For work and home there are ten preconfigured AI teammates: Paula (product), Ben (project management), Theo (development), Quinn (testing), Sina (SEO & content), Mo (social media), Clara (office & bookkeeping), Lena (research), Oskar (home & family) and Mira (travel & events). What AI agents in Todowa don’t do
They work with what’s in the task, its comments and earlier tasks – and with the tools you have allowed them. They don’t make up specifics such as phone numbers or prices. Anything only a person can do – sending, calling, paying – they name and hand the task back.

Tasks are spread across many tools, and none of them sees the whole picture. We’re building Todowa as an AI-first to-do system that fits into the ones you already use: tasks show up in your Notion database, in Asana, in Todoist and in Google Calendar, and AI matches up what belongs together.

Which AI is behind it?
By default Claude by Anthropic through Todowa’s AI. In the settings you can also add your own OpenAI-compatible endpoint; requests then only go there.
How many AI teammates can I create?
The free plan and Pro each include one AI teammate. With the “AI team 5” and “AI team 10” add-on packages for Pro you get up to 5 or 10, each with more monthly AI allowance – book them under Settings → Subscription. With your own AI key the number from your plan or package applies, and AI usage is not limited.
Does the AI see my other tasks?
To work on a task it gets that task, its comments and related earlier tasks from your workspace – nothing else.
