Backups

How Todowa backs up your tasks

Your tasks shouldn’t get lost – not through a wrong click and not through an outage. Here’s how often we back up, where the backups are stored and what can be restored, and how.

How often we back up

Backups are set up to run automatically every night and cover Todowa’s entire database: accounts, projects, tasks, comments and the sync mappings. They can also be triggered manually at any time, for example before major changes to Todowa.

The last 30 backups are kept. Whether backups are active and when the last one succeeded is shown at the top of this page – the value comes straight from the system.

Where backups are stored and how they’re protected

Backups are stored with Amazon Web Services in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, in private storage used only by Todowa, encrypted at rest. Only the application itself has access, through its own narrowly scoped permission.

Access tokens for your connected tools are already encrypted in the database and stay encrypted in the backup. Todowa stores passwords only as hashes.

  • Location: Frankfurt am Main, Germany
  • Encrypted at rest and in transit
  • Kept separate from the live database

What you can restore yourself

Most slip-ups don’t need a backup: after completing, discarding or deleting, “Undo” appears at the bottom. Deleted tasks are first only marked as deleted, not removed right away.

Todowa never permanently deletes anything in connected tools, so your tasks are also preserved there. The sync log shows what sync did.

What restoring from a backup means

Backups are meant for emergencies: if the database fails or gets corrupted, Todowa is restored from the latest backup. Restoring is tested – an automated test makes a backup, changes the data and checks that everything is correct again after the restore.

A full restore affects the whole service: changes made since the backup are lost – in the worst case, a day’s worth.

Individual accounts can also be restored from a backup – for example an account deleted by mistake, with its projects and tasks. Only what’s missing is added; nothing existing is overwritten. This isn’t self-service: write to us via the contact form and we’ll restore it for you.

Why we’re building Todowa

Your tasks belong to you – not to your tools.

Tasks are spread across many tools, and none of them sees the whole picture. We’re building Todowa as an AI-first to-do system that fits into the ones you already use: tasks show up in your Notion database, in Asana, in Todoist and in Google Calendar, and AI matches up what belongs together.

Frequently asked questions

Can I export my data myself?

The calendar feed gives you your tasks with due dates as a calendar. A full export of your account is planned but not available yet; on request, we’ll provide your data.

How long are backups kept?

The last 30 backups. Older ones are deleted automatically. So if you delete your account, your data disappears from the backups by the end of that period at the latest.

What happens if a backup fails?

The error shows up in the operations dashboard, and the status on this page stays at the last successful run. That way you can see how old the most recent backup is.
